2014 El Pomar Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
Determining the potential of the El Pomar District for producing quintessential Cabernet Sauvignon is upon us. Linne Calodo top-soils composed of shale, clay, and loam along with Diablo Limestone sub-soils, based on white, chalky, calcium carbonate, provide unique terroir. The cooling effects of the Pacific through the Templeton Gap together with hilltop and south facing sites allow berries to ripen with signature flavors, healthy tannins, and ample acidity. Blackberries, cherries, and loganberries are evident at the mid-palate as lavender and rose petals waft on the nose. Boysenberry and kirsch become apparent just as subtle black tea, sandalwood, and sage notes arrive at the lavish and lingering finish. The 2014 vintage contributes generously to the narrative: the El Pomar District of Paso Robles produces expressive, exquisite, and graceful Cabernet Sauvignon wine.
