2015 'Portolan' Founder's Collection
Guide friends on a blind tasting of the 2015 Portolan. Show no label; tender no preconceived notions; serve no hype of any kind. The Appearance (a deep garnet that tapers into brick at the edges). The Nose (lavender, rose petals, black pepper, and thyme). The Palate (layers of blackberries, loganberries, and figs; accents of red currants, dried cranberries, and seasoned mesquite). The Tannins (supple, pliant, limber). The Finish (rounded, full, sumptuous, lengthy). The Reveal (a beguiled panel of guests, their sensory perceptions having been put to the test, and the true character of the wine unveiled).
