2022 Sextant X-Series Marselan
Crossing cabernet sauvignon and grenache has yielded a seemingly exponential effect of varietal characteristics while maintaining balance and composure. Cinnamon, cassis, and cloves waft on the nose at first swirl. Notes of ripe cherries, blackberries, and figs become prominent, then inklings of cranberries, raspberries, and eucalyptus appear. Robust texture enables the flavors to tumble and coalesce over the entire palate, with hints of espresso, mocha, and vanilla trailing on the lengthy finish.

Winemaker Notes
Marselan can be a very slow-ripening varietal; it is essential that we give it time, otherwise we can end up with an earthier and less vibrant vintage. In 2022, we timed our picking right on the mark, resulting in a bold, juicy wine. Marselan produces a small berry with tight clusters, similar to one of its parent grapes, cabernet sauvignon. Grenache, the other parent, tends to have more impact on the aroma, showcasing wild blue fruits. We aged this wine in a small portion of new French oak for 18 months to let the fruit shine.
